The Roy T.
Wells Fund
Our family recently found out that Roy, has been diagnosed with ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis) or Lou Gehrig's Disease. Although this has been devastating news, spirits remain high. You ask what is ALS? ALS is a progressive, fatal neuromuscular disease. ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig's disease, is a motor neuron disease with progressive muscular atrophy. Once thought rare, it is now considered fairly common, striking both men and women, generally between the ages of 40 and 75. ALS is characterized by a degeneration of motor cells in the brain and spinal cord, leading to muscle weakness and, as the disease progresses, severe impairment of mobility, speech, swallowing, and respiratory function. The mind remains intact and unaffected. Average lifespan, following diagnosis, is two to five years. While recent research has shed light on possible causes of ALS, its cure remains a mystery.
A fund has been set up in Roy's name to raise funds to make the necessary changes to aid Roy as the disease progresses. Your support is requested, spiritually, in friendship, in family and financially if possible. A portion of the money raised will be donated to charities that aid those with this disease as well as charities that further the research. Wish to Donate? Make checks payable to the "Roy T. Wells Fund" and mail to: P.O.
